Jack versuas Hitler

Jack Vs. Hitler

In the novel, The Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, kids on a plane end up on an island surviving the plane’s destruction. The group tries to keep their humanity and not turn to their animalistic side. There is a kid on the island named Jack Merridew. He is a jerk and declares himself chief of the island. Adolf Hitler and Jack have many similarities. They were both dictators because they eliminated people they did not like, they used their surroundings to manipulate people into doing what they wanted, and they limited free speech.

Jack and Adolf Hitler are dictators because they both eliminated people they did not like. Golding writes, “We’ll hunt. I’m going to be chief…They nodded and the crisis passed easily.” (3). Jack is a violent hunter and, as chief, his violent nature encourages his followers to cause pain on those who do not agree with him. Due to this, Jack allowed for the murders of Simon and Piggy. Adolf Hitler said, “I know that some Man capable of giving our problems a final solution must appear.” (1) Adolf Hitler would send Jews to the death camps as his final solution. Jack would hunt the people he hated. This just shows that Jack and Hitler would eliminate their enemies to get what they want.

Jack Merridew and Adolf Hitler both manipulated others. Golding writes, “On top, when Roger and me went on – he stayed back.” (3) Even though Ralph went with Jack and

Roger, Jack manipulates the boys by exaggerating and lying. Jack makes the boys think that Ralph is a coward. Adolf Hitler said, “When it was regarded that the Jews were dangerous we pushed them into the ghettos.” (2). The Nazis lured the Jews into the ghettos, so they could make them weak and tired. They did not fight Adolf Hitler because of this. Both Jack and Adolf Hitler manipulated others to get what they wanted.

Jack did not care about free speech and neither did Adolf Hitler. Golding writes, “The conch doesn’t work on this part of the island.”(3). Jack did not respect the conch. Jack always ignored the conch he did not care who was talking while holding the conch. He did not want to listen others. As for Adolf Hitler, he had completely terminated free speech. On the page, “Nazi Propaganda and Censorship,” the writer states, “They arrested people who spoke out against the Nazi party.” (4). Adolf Hitler would always make sure no one was speaking out against him. If someone was, they would be eliminated. There was no free speech for Jack or Hitler’s people.

Jack Merridew and Adolf Hitler were both dictators because they eliminated, manipulated, and silenced their enemies. Jack and Adolf Hitler both wanted power and they took power away from other people. Jack and Hitler both thought they were doing the right thing. Jack and Hitler both ended up causing wars. In the end, because of their selfishness, they both paid the price.
